As noted on Monday, a Savor the View hiatus begins as I attend to the demands of other commitments. It’s been a delight thinking and feeling our way through these films.
Be well, my friends.
Anyway, hello, welcome, and thank you for stopping by. For new visitors, here’s what this situation is all about:
With Savor the View, we’ll watch, think, and talk about movies and the things that matter. A special welcome and thanks to our regular crew!
Each Monday, I share brief, spoiler-free remarks and questions to frame viewing a movie on our own.
Each Thursday, I share post-viewing questions to poke at the issues, ideas, quandaries, inspirations...whatever...that movie might have summoned (spoilers, ahoy!).
Paid subscribers can talk it all out in a weekly Discussion Thread.
General thoughts?
The universal/general
This is not a linear story. What does a non-linear narrative approach communicate about the story?
What is life? What is death? What will a person do to save a life or to resist death? Are there “right” and “wrong” kinds of approaches?
The specific/unique
Is Tommy’s (Hugh Jackman) research lab and surgery like anything you would expect a research lab and surgery to be? If not, why this choice of stylization?
Izzy (Rachel Weisz) has a distinctive demeanor. Is this “playful” or even “childlike” – or perhaps even “immature?” [Notice my last adjective is fairly judgmental. Feel free to challenge me on that judgment, but it hit me strongly while I watched.]
The viewer is always present
Do you like the characters? How do you feel about this story?
